Mechnikov, was established in 2011 through the merger of two of Russia's oldest medical institutions — the St. Petersburg Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education and the St. Petersburg State Medical Academy — creating a legacy of 125+ years. Under Ministry of Health Russia, NWSMU operates 8 faculties, 112 departments, and owns hospitals, medical centers, and clinical departments. The 44.5-hectare campus has 77 buildings.
