Assam NEET PG Counselling 2026: Official Process, Seat Matrix, Management & NRI Quota

Last Updated on August 14, 2026

Assam NEET PG Counselling 2026 is the centralized, merit-based state admission process for postgraduate medical degree and diploma courses (MD, MS, and PG Diploma) across government and participating medical institutions in the state. The entire counselling procedure is strictly organized and administered online by the Directorate of Medical Education (DME), Government of Assam.

Assam features a structured medical admission framework. Following the national dual-channel seat allocation model, 50% of postgraduate seats in Assam Government Medical Colleges are surrendered to the All India Quota (AIQ) managed centrally by MCC via mcc.nic.in, while the remaining 50% of government seats and state quota slots are administered by DME Assam. Seat allocations across Assam are structured under a multi-tier quota system:

1. State Quota (50% in Government Medical Institutions)

  • Seat Share: Comprises 50% of the total postgraduate clinical, para-clinical, and pre-clinical seats in Assam Government Medical Colleges (including premier institutions like Assam Medical College Dibrugarh, Gauhati Medical College Guwahati, and Silchar Medical College).
  • Eligibility: Strictly reserved for candidates who possess a valid Assam state domicile/residency, or those who have completed their qualifying MBBS degree from a recognized medical college located within Assam. Dedicated vertical and horizontal reservation policies apply for General, OBC/MOBC, SC, ST(P), ST(H), EWS, and PwD categories.
  • Fee Structure: Highly subsidized government academic fee scale in state-run medical colleges.

2. Management & NRI Quota Provisions

  • Seat Share: Limited institutional or private-pool seats where applicable are regulated as per state guidelines. Government medical colleges in Assam do not feature open management or NRI quota seats for postgraduate courses.
  • Eligibility: NEET PG qualified candidates satisfying specific state criteria.
