Maharashtra NEET PG Counselling 2026: Official Process, Seat Matrix, Management & NRI Quota

Maharashtra NEET PG Counselling 2026 is the centralized, merit-based state admission process for postgraduate medical degree and diploma courses (MD, MS, and PG Diploma) across government, corporation, government-aided, and private/deemed self-financing medical colleges, administered online by the State Common Entrance Test Cell (CET Cell), Government of Maharashtra, Mumbai.

50% of postgraduate seats in Maharashtra Government and Corporation Medical Colleges are surrendered to the All India Quota (AIQ) managed by MCC, while the remaining 50% of government seats, in-service quota seats, and 100% of private/deemed college seats are administered by CET Cell Maharashtra.

1. State Quota (50% in Government, Corporation & Government-Aided Institutions)

  • Comprises 50% of seats in Maharashtra Government, Corporation, and Government-Aided Medical Colleges (Seth GS Medical College KEM Hospital Mumbai, Grant Government College JJ Hospital Mumbai, BJ Government College Pune, GMC Nagpur).
  • Reserved for candidates with valid Maharashtra domicile/residency, or MBBS graduates from a Maharashtra institution; reservation applies for SC, ST, VJ/DT-A, NT-B/C/D, OBC, SEBC, EWS, and PwD.
  • Fee: Approx. Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 1,50,000 per annum.

2. In-Service Quota (In-Service Doctors)

  • Up to 20% of seats earmarked for qualified medical officers serving under the Public Health & Medical Education Departments, Government of Maharashtra.
  • Requires prescribed rural/remote service years, valid NOC, and NEET PG qualification within required state merit brackets.
  • Fee: Subsidized government scale, backed by state service bond regulations.

3. Institutional / Management Quota (Private & Deemed Medical Colleges)

  • Open management and minority quota seats across colleges like Dr. D.Y. Patil Medical College Pune/Navi Mumbai, MGIMS Sevagram, Datta Meghe Institute Wardha, K.J. Somaiya Medical College Mumbai, and KIMS Karad.
  • Open to NEET PG qualified aspirants nationwide; Maharashtra domicile not mandatory.
  • Fee: Regulated private/university tuition, varying by institution type.

4. NRI Quota (Private & Deemed Medical Colleges)

  • Dedicated NRI Quota seats (up to 15% of institutional intake); government and corporation colleges do not offer NRI/Management Quota for PG courses.
  • Open to NRIs, OCIs, PIOs, and foreign nationals; sponsorship strictly limited to the candidate's Parent (Father or Mother) or a Court-appointed Legal Guardian under the Guardians and Wards Act, 1890 – uncles, aunts, grandparents, and siblings cannot sponsor.
  • Fee: Premium international tier payable in USD or equivalent, higher for Radio-Diagnosis, General Medicine, OBG, Orthopaedics, and Paediatrics.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must have qualified NEET PG 2026 conducted by NBEMS with the mandatory minimum qualifying percentile (50th Gen/EWS, 40th SC/ST/OBC/SEBC, 45th UR-PwD).
  • Must possess a recognized MBBS degree or provisional pass certificate from an NMC-recognized institution.
  • Must have completed or be scheduled to complete the mandatory 12-month rotatory internship by the official CET Cell cutoff date.
  • Must hold permanent registration from the Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC) or NMC; allottees must register with MMC within the stipulated timeframe.
  • State Quota: Must satisfy Maharashtra domicile/nativity conditions or prove MBBS completion from a Maharashtra institution. Non-Maharashtrian candidates are eligible only for AIQ, Management, and NRI Quota seats.
  • NRI Quota: candidate or sponsor must hold documented NRI/OCI/PIO/Foreign National status; sponsor must strictly be a Parent or Court-appointed Legal Guardian (Guardians and Wards Act, 1890); sworn affidavit, passport, overseas residence proof, work permit, and foreign bank statements required.

The application workflow for Maharashtra NEET PG 2026 across all quotas (State Quota, In-Service Quota, Management Quota, NRI Quota) is conducted strictly online via the official CET Cell portal.

  1. Portal Registration: Create a candidate profile with NEET PG Roll Number, All India Rank, Name, DOB, email, and mobile number.
  2. Payment of Application Fee: Pay the mandatory non-refundable application fee online and print the receipt.
  3. Form Filling & Quota Claim: Complete personal, academic, internship, and category details; select State Quota, In-Service Quota, Management Quota, or NRI Quota.
  4. Uploading Scanned Documents: Upload photograph, signature, NEET PG scorecard, MBBS degree, internship certificate, registration certificate, domicile proof, and NRI sponsorship files.
  5. Profile Verification & Defect Rectification: Monitor status and rectify any flagged document defects within the correction window.
  6. Merit List Publication: CET Cell publishes the official Common State PG Merit List and Category Lists.
  7. Option Registration (Choice Filling & Locking): Submit and lock preferred colleges and specialties in order of priority for CAP Round 1.
  8. Allotment & Physical Reporting: Download the provisional allotment letter, pay the token/tuition fee, and report physically to the Dean/Principal of the allotted college for verification.
