The 2026 NMC Update: A Record-Breaking Year for Medical Seats

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has officially released the seat matrix for the 2026-27 academic session, and the numbers are unprecedented. For the current counselling cycle, a record total of 1,36,939 MBBS seats will be available for NEET UG admissions.

This massive capacity is distributed across 823 medical colleges nationwide, comprising 441 government institutions and 382 private institutions. When we break down the quota availability, candidates will be competing for 63,296 Government MBBS seats and 73,643 Private MBBS seats.
